  • Corps to restart D.C. levee upgrade project at 17th Street

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District is pleased to announce that today Colonial Surety Company has reached an agreement with Akima Construction Services, LLC to complete the construction of the levee closure structure at 17th Street, part of the Washington, D.C. Local Flood Protection Project.

  • Area Army Corps parks to remain open temporarily during shutdown

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, which oversees the operations of numerous recreation areas throughout the Susquehanna and Potomac River Basins, will temporarily continue full operations despite a lapse in federal funding. This means Corps operated campgrounds and day use areas will remain open and all reservations will be honored. Moreover, parks with leased areas and/or concessionaires can remain open as well.

  • Corps of Engineers celebrates National Public Lands Day, creates habitat

    The Baltimore District at Jennings Randolph Lake will host their 20th Annual National Public Lands Day event, Sept. 28. The staff with local Boy Scouts of America and the Friends of Jennings Randolph Lake will add bundled Christmas trees donated for recycling earlier this year to the lake creating cover for fish and enhancing nursery habitat for juvenile fish. In turn, this will benefit shoreline fishing and overall fish habitat at Jennings Randolph Lake.

  • Corps, Friends of Jennings Randolph Lake sponsor annual clean-up event

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Jennings Randolph Lake and the Friends of Jennings Randolph Lake invite volunteers to take part in the third annual Route 46 Cleanup day, scheduled for Saturday, September 21 at 10 a.m.

  • Corps of Engineers reviews agreement with non-profit partners at Raystown Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District announced today that it has conducted a review of all Cooperative Joint Management (CJM) arrangements (agreements and leases) it has with its non-profit, cooperating associations at Raystown Lake. Under these arrangements, cooperating associations have been collecting and retaining user fees generated from the public’s use of Army Corps of Engineers-constructed recreation facilities and reinvesting the fees to perform operation and maintenance of facilities within this jointly-managed lease area. The Baltimore District currently has one such agreement in place at Raystown Lake in Huntingdon, Pa., with the Friends of Raystown Lake group.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District recently launched a mobile App to enhance the way visitors are able to access important information about district flood control and recreation projects, navigation, contracting opportunities, and water safety.

  • Jennings Randolph Lake announces free Labor Day activities

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Jennings Randolph Lake announces a variety of activities planned for the Labor Day weekend 2013. Activities include interpretive programs, intake control tower tours, and a Craft Day Program, all of which are free and open to the public.

  • Corps, local partners host rescue demonstration at Hammond Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tioga-Hammond and Cowanesque Lakes invites the public to attend a water rescue demonstration on the Hammond Lake near the swimming area at Ives Run Recreation Area on Saturday, August 31 at 11 a.m.

  • Raystown Lake hosts annual sidewalk art contest

    RAYSTOWN LAKE, Pa. — Visitors are invited to “Chalk the Walk” at Seven Points Beach on August 17, 2013. The Indiana University of Pennsylvania chapter of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Raystown Lake are hosting a sidewalk art contest to bring art into the community while spreading water safety awareness.

  • Raystown not enrolled in DMAP for the 2013-14 hunting season

    RAYSTOWN LAKE, Pa. —The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Raystown Lake announces that they will not be enrolled in the Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) for the 2013-2014 hunting season. The DMAP is administered by the PA Game Commission and allows additional deer harvest tags in designated areas to allow for greater forest regeneration. DMAP coupons will not be available for the eastern side of Raystown Lake also known as Area 89.
