The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Raystown Lake, invites volunteers to continue the annual tradition of public service by participating in this year's Raystown Branch of the Juniata River Cleanup Day this Saturday, in honor of National Public Lands Day.

Volunteers will help restore a 4-mile section of the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River, from Corbin's Island Recreation Area to the Point Access area.

The Army Corps requests volunteers meet at 8:30 a.m. in Corbin's Island. This event should finish at the Point Access area by 2:00 p.m.

Raystown Lake park rangers will provide materials including gloves and trash bags. Additionally, the Army Corps encourages volunteers to bring their own boats and life jackets, however, some may be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. All volunteers must wear a life jacket throughout the event for water safety purposes. If you need a life jacket, please contact Park Ranger Jenna Conner at 814-658-6811.

The Army Corps strongly encourages all volunteers to wear a face mask and social distance by standing at least 6 feet apart from other individuals. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Also, volunteers are encouraged to bring hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol to use throughout the day.

The Friends of Raystown Lake have donated light refreshments and bagged lunches prepared by Boxer’s Restaurant for volunteers during this event.

The Army Corps would like to show appreciation by issuing a fee-free coupon to all participating volunteers to use as a single-use voucher. The fee-free coupon is valid for one year from the date of issuance. It can be applied to a one-day of entrance or for day-use fees at any participating federal agency park, forest or recreation area that charges either of these types of fees.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Raystown Lake, would like to thank the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, the Friends of Raystown Lake, Rothrock Outfitters, and Boxer's Restaurant for their support of this event.

To sign up please call Park Ranger Jenna Conner at 814- 658-6811 or visit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Raystown Lake Facebook Page. For more information on National Public Lands Day or to find other events near you, visit http://www.publiclandsday.org
