If you fish the lake, you may use either a West Virginia license or a Maryland license, but you do need one or the other.  Anglers must abide by Maryland fishing regulations.

The lake is considered a walleye and small mouth bass lake although trout, bluegill and catfish are also in abundance.

Directions from Elk Garden, WV to Howell Run Boat Launch: Travel east along WV State Route 46 following the southern perimeter of the lake. The Howell Run Boat Launch is on the left. Signage is good.

Directions from Cumberland, MD to Maryland Boat Launch: Exit onto US Highway 220 South for approximately 20 miles to MD State Route 135 West for approximately another 20 miles and then make a Left on Mount Zion Road, follow road until it dead ends at Maryland Boat Launch.
