The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District (USACE) is proposing to remediate a deteriorating crib wall above the spillway at the Whitney Point Lake Project located on the Otselic River in Broome County, New York. The crib wall is a 1600-foot long by 4 to 10-foot high wall made of precast reinforced concrete “bin” members (i.e. header and whaler members) and pervious backfill that retains an engineered backfill slope. USACE is preparing an environmental assessment (EA) per the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended, to assess the impact of the crib wall remediation to the human and natural environment.

Public Notice: Upper Susquehanna River Basin, New York Comprehensive Flood Damage Reduction Feasibility Study

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) conducted a feasibility study for the Upper Susquehanna River Basin, New York. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was the non-federal sponsor and partner for this study. The study was initiated on July 8, 2016. Based on findings from economic, engineering, and environmental analyses, no viable flood risk management alternatives in the federal interest were identified. USACE and local communities identified various smaller-scale projects that may be viable under other USACE authorities, or through the authorities and programs of other state and federal agencies. Therefore, USACE, Baltimore District, has terminated the Upper Susquehanna River Basin, New York, Comprehensive Flood Damage Reduction Feasibility Study.

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, (USACE) has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) to assess impacts for repairs to the Codorus Creek Flood Risk Management (FRM) component of the overall Indian Rock Dam/Codorus Creek FRM Project on Codorus Creek. The Codorus Creek FRM project is approximately 4.8 miles in length, and includes a widened and deepened creek channel, levees, floodwalls and bank protective works. The project’s infrastructure is aging and in need of repairs to ensure it continues to properly perform its FRM functions. At this time, rehabilitation of floodwall, levee, drainage structures and bank protective works are anticipated.
