RAYSTOWN LAKE, Pennsylvania —The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Raystown Lake is experiencing heightened lake elevations as a part of its Flood Risk Management mission following recent rains associated with Tropical Storm Gordon.
In the interest of public safety, all boat launches and associated parking areas at Raystown Lake are closed and will remain closed throughout the weekend of Sept. 14-16, and until further notice. This includes the following locations:
- Snyder’s Run Boat Launch
- Seven Points Boat Launch
- Aitch Boat Launch
- James Creek Boat Launch
- Tatman Run Boat Launch
- Shy Beaver Boat Launch
- Weaver Falls Boat Launch
Launches will re-open once water levels recede and Corps staff determines watercraft can be launched safely. Corps staff also reminds boaters that once launches re-open, significant debris associated with high water events is expected both on the lake surface and submerged water. Please operate all vessels with extreme caution.
Camping is still available this weekend in the Ridge and Meadow Campgrounds. Point, Senoia, and Valley Campgrounds are closed due to high water levels. A wide variety of recreation opportunities remain available for those wishing to enjoy outdoor activities over the weekend. Open facilities include the use of select picnic shelters and picnic areas, biking the Allegrippis Trails and Mountain Bike Skills Park, and hiking on the Terrace Mountain, Old Loggers, and Hillside Nature Trails. Changes in recreation status are dependent on weather conditions and can change at the discretion of Corps staff at any time.
As of noon on Sept. 13, Raystown Lake is at 35 percent capacity and its reservoir is at 10 ft. above normal pool and falling slowly. Corps staff will continue to operate according to our established procedures in order to restore the normal lake elevation as quickly as possible while not exceeding downstream channel capacity, and remain confident that the dam will continue to function as designed.
