The Importance of STEM

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, recognizes the critical role that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education plays in enabling the U.S. to remain the economic and technological leaders of the global marketplace, and enabling the Department of Defense and Army in the security of our Nation.

Baltimore District believes that people are our biggest assets. We are able to tackle our Nation’s toughest water resources and engineering issues because of our people; those people that began as students interested in STEM education fields! Our Area of Operations is expansive, covering five states and Washington, D.C. within the Susquehanna, Potomac and Chesapeake Bay watersheds allowing us to be able to travel and speak to youth, inspiring them to choose a STEM-related career field. The Army Corps' civilian workforce is comprised of a variety of professions - far beyond engineering. Our organization has engineers, biologists, ecologists, archaeologists, and more, who are key members in completing our mission.

We are committed to teaming with others to strengthen STEM-related programs that inspire current and future generations of young people to pursue careers in STEM fields.
