RAYSTOWN LAKE, Penn. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working with CHLOETA Fire to conduct prescribed fire management at Raystown Lake within the November 10 to November 17 timeframe.
Weathering permitting, there will be five burn units totaling 201.51 acres. Burn Unit 1, 59.95 acres, is located at the northern end of Raystown Lake off of Bakers Hollow Road. Burn Units 2 and 3, 24.18 acres and 16.41 acres respectively, are located at the southern end of Raystown off of Weaver Falls Road. Burn Unit 4, 34.18 acres, is located south of Seven Points Entrance Station and Burn Unit 5, 66.78 acres, is located adjacent to Trough Creek Inlet.
These prescribed fires are scheduled as part of Raystown Lake’s forest and wildlife management efforts. Prescribed fire is an important management tool for fuel load reduction, control of invasive species, grassland management and promotion of fire dependent species (i.e. oak species).
