USACE Baltimore District has completed all field activities associated with the decommissioning and dismantlement of the former SM-1 nuclear power plant at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, marking the conclusion of a complex environmental and radiological engineering mission underway since 2020.

Baltimore District cut the ribbon July 30 on the Freedom Center IV Barracks, delivering two new four-story buildings that will house 380 enlisted Service members supporting the National Security Agency, U.S. Cyber Command and other mission partners at Fort Meade.

USACE, Baltimore District, is scheduled to remove approximately 5,000 cubic yards of dredged material from the Ocean City Inlet beginning Wednesday, July 22, 2026.The dredging cycle is expected to last approximately 15 days, concluding just ahead of the White Marlin Open.

Baltimore District awarded a $53.8 million base contract to C&C Joint Ventures, LLC, of Gloucester, Virginia, for restoration work at James Island, part of the Mid-Chesapeake Bay Island Ecosystem Restoration project in Dorchester County. Construction activities are expected to begin in late April.
