The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, along with the Maryland Port Administration and the Maryland Environmental Service hosted a delegation from the Middle East and North Africa at Poplar Island on Mar. 21, 2014. The delegation consisted of 9 government officials, academics, industry representatives, and technical experts from countries including Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, and Yemen. Robin Armetta (Planning), Mark Mendelsohn (Planning), Ingrid Bauer (Civil Engineering) and Trevor Kough (Civil Engineering) provided the group a 20 minute PowerPoint presentation to explain the methods of restoration and preservation used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, such as the use of dredged material to restore the Poplar Island habitat. The visit to Poplar Island was a part of the group's month long visit to the United States under the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program to learn about water resource management.
