Army Corps to host open house for F.J. Sayers Dam’s 50th anniversary

WHAT

A public open house and formal presentation to celebrate 50 years of operation for the F.J. Sayers Dam. The dam’s gatehouse will be open for a rare public viewing, and posters featuring historical information and facts on the dam will be on display.

WHY

F.J. Sayers Dam is operated and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District. Since its completion in 1969, it has prevented more than $212 million in flood damages for downstream communities. The dam is named in memory of Private First Class Foster Joseph Sayers, a former resident of Centre County, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic service as a U.S. Army machine gunner in WWII.
