F.J. Sayers Dam is operated and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District. Since its completion in 1969, it has prevented more than $212 million in flood damages for downstream communities. The dam is named in memory of Private First Class Foster Joseph Sayers, a former resident of Centre County, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic service as a U.S. Army machine gunner in WWII.
