Raystown Lake hosts annual sidewalk art contest

RAYSTOWN LAKE, Pa. — Visitors are invited to “Chalk the Walk” at Seven Points Beach on August 17, 2013.  The Indiana University of Pennsylvania chapter of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Raystown Lake are hosting a sidewalk art contest to bring art into the community while spreading water safety awareness.

The contest is open to the public, free of charge.  All ages may enter.  Registration begins at 11 a.m.  Entries can be drawn anytime between 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.  Winners will be contacted following judging which ends at 8 p.m.; artists need not be present at judging to win.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: ages 6-12, 13-17, and 18 and up.  Each age group will have first thru third place prizes including a cash prize; each first place prize is $100, each second place is $50 and each third place is $25; and a Raystown fun basket.  Additional prizes will be awarded to the fan favorite.  Participation awards are available to children under 6 years of age.

Chalk and basic art supplies will be provided on a first come, first served basis.  Artists may supply their own materials, upon approval.  In the event of rain the contest will be held on August 31, 2013.  For a full list of contest rules call event organizer Olivia Mays at 814-658-6809.
