BALTIMORE — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, and the Maryland Port Administration will host a Poplar Island update meeting at Tilghman Island Elementary School, 21374 Foster Road, Tilghman Island, Maryland, Sept. 19, 2016 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will inform the public on current and future activities at the Poplar Island ecosystem restoration project, including planned activities associated with the Poplar Island expansion project.
Posters will be on display and staff will be available beginning at 4:00 p.m. There will be a 30 minute presentation starting at 6:00 p.m. Questions will be answered during the poster session and after the presentation.
Poplar Island, recently on the verge of disappearing, is today a national model for habitat restoration and the beneficial use of dredged material. Just off the Chesapeake Bay coastline, about 34 miles south of Baltimore in Talbot County, Maryland, Poplar Island is being returned to its former size and important ecological function while helping to ensure the economic vitality of the region.
