    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, on March 5, 2025, issued its Section 10/404/408 permit decision for the rebuild of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, granting Maryland Transportation Authority permission to construct the bridge that will reconnect the I-695 Baltimore Beltway and improve community accessibility lost following the collapse of the original structure that claimed the lives of six Baltimoreans.

  • Army Corps shares information on streamlined storm damage repair permits and exemptions

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers anticipates that some owners of damaged property from Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaias within the Baltimore District area will want to conduct repair activities in the near future. It is important to note that most of these smaller repairs may not require an application to be submitted to the Army Corps prior to beginning work.

  • Army Corps regulators to host aquaculture workshop March 21

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District’s Regulatory Branch, in coordination with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Aquaculture and Industry Enhancement Division, is hosting a virtual aquaculture program workshop March 21 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The information presented will also be streamed at two physical locations: the Maryland DNR Tawes State Office Building, and at the Corps Easton Field Office in the Talbot Town Shopping Center.

  • First DOD mitigation banking instrument for Maryland unveiled

    The U.S. Air Force at Joint Base Andrews, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Maryland Department of the Environment, GreenTrust Alliance and GreenVest LLC announced the completion of the first Umbrella Mitigation Banking Instrument for the Department of Defense in Maryland during an event held at The Courses at Andrews, Sept. 6, 2018. The first site to be restored under the UMBI is Mattawoman Creek in Pomfret, which is in Charles County. The entire project yields nearly 38 wetland credits and almost 1,600 stream credits to provide potential mitigation for planned construction efforts on JBA, such as runway construction or expansion.

  • Corps of Engineers to host webinar on new permit process for work in Maryland

    The Regulatory Branch is hosting a webinar Nov. 9, 2016, from 10 a.m. - noon on its fifth version of the Maryland State Programmatic General Permit (MDSPGP-5), which became effective Oct. 1, 2016, and will expire Sept. 30, 2021. The intent of MDSPGP-5 is to provide a streamlined Department of the Army authorization for certain recurring activities in Maryland formerly covered by the Nationwide Permits program that are similar in nature, have minimal individual and cumulative adverse effects on the aquatic environment, and satisfy other public interest review factors.

The intent of MDSPGP-5 is to provide a streamlined Department of the Army authorization for certain recurring activities in Maryland formerly covered by the Nationwide Permits program that are similar in nature, have minimal individual and cumulative adverse effects on the aquatic environment, and satisfy other public interest review factors.

  • Army Corps of Engineers implements federal process improvements for oyster aquaculture in Chesapeake Bay

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District (Corps) has decided to reinstate, effective today, August 16, 2016, the suspended 2012 Nationwide Permit #48 (NWP #48) with revised regional conditions for new and existing commercial shellfish aquaculture activities in Maryland tidal waters, pursuant to Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
