    Army Corps to host Virtual Public Meeting on Wicomico River Maintenance Dredging, Placement Site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, is hosting a virtual public meeting April 14 from 6 – 8 p.m. to provide information and solicit input on the upcoming Wicomico River maintenance dredging and placement site location at the Deal Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA).     Public Comment Period Opens for SM-1A Draft Environmental Assessment and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, has released the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FNSI) for the proposed action to decommission and dismantle the Deactivated Stationary Medium Power Model 1A Nuclear Power Plant (SM-1A) at U.S. Army Garrison Alaska, Fort Greely, and release the property for unrestricted use.

    Restoration Regulation

    A $30 million project on the Manokin River in Somerset County is on track to be the world’s largest oyster restoration effort. For any restoration project, permits are required to evaluate potential project impacts - both positive and negative - on the environment before work can proceed. While USACE has been the lead for reef construction efforts on other tributaries, in the case of the Manokin, USACE played the role of regulator.

    Poplar Island Ecosystem Restoration Expansion Complete, Open to accept Dredge Material

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, completed construction of the Poplar Island Ecosystem Restoration Project lateral expansion Jan. 20, 2021, providing 575 additional acres, including four new wetland cells and one large upland cell. The project is now able to accept dredged material associated with the approach channels to the Port of Baltimore until around 2032.

    Critical study to help Port of Baltimore meet vessel needs

    With its existing 50-foot deep channel and Neo-Panamax cranes, the Port of Baltimore is already able to accommodate some of the largest container ships in the world, and has experienced significant growth in containers in recent years.     Army Corps announces Tioga-Hammond and Cowanesque Lakes closures and updates

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, will close Ives Run Campground, the Ives Run camp store and the South Shore concessionaire from Oct. 31, 2020 to May 1, 2021, in conjunction with the end of the 2020 recreation season. Additionally, the Lambs Creek Recreation Area boat launch is closed until further notice due to low lake surface water elevations resulting from a lack in precipitation.
