Published Nov. 10, 2016

RAYSTOWN LAKE, Pennsylvania The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) at Raystown Lake will be conducting prescribed fire management at various locations across the project Nov. 11-18, 2016.  Exact schedule is contingent upon relevant weather elements.

A total of five burn units totaling 47.16 acres are located in Bowsers Orchard, High Germany, Clappers Ridge, and near Mile Marker 24.

The goals for these prescribed fires include hazardous fuel reduction, invasive species control, grassland management, and promotion of fire dependent species. The implementation of prescribed fire as a management tool is in accordance with Raystown Lake Project’s Forest and Wildlife Management Plan, and all proper protocols will be closely followed.

If you live in the vicinity of the burn units, it is recommended that you keep all home windows closed to minimize smoke impacts. Additionally, the Corps asks that you avoid all burn unit areas.
