The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is one of the nation’s leading provider of outdoor recreation with over 400 lake and river projects in 43 states and more than 250 million visits per year. Please be careful in and around the water because even strong swimmers drown. Overview

Located in Steuben County, N.Y., on Canacadea Creek approximately 2 miles upstream of Hornell, N.Y.

The project is a unit of the comprehensive flood damage reduction plan for the protection of communities in southern New York and eastern Pennsylvania authorized by the Flood Control Act of June 22, 1936 as amended by the Flood Control Act of June 28, 1938, and as described in House Document No. 702, 77th Congress, second session.  

Steuben County operates and maintains the Kanakadea Recreation Area at Almond Lake. Recreation facilities include a boat launch, picnic area and campground. Recreation is offered Memorial Day to Labor Day annually. For more information call: 607-324-0590
