U.S. ARMY INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT ON PROPOSED PLAN FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SITE FTGL-06 AT FOREST GLEN ANNEX, SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND

Published July 27, 2020

The U.S. Army (Army) at the Forest Glen Annex invites the public to comment on a Proposed Plan for an environmental restoration program site, Site FTGL-06, Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Contamination North of Linden Lane. The Army’s comprehensive environmental investigations have found no further action is needed at Site FTGL-06, and the site is available for unrestricted use.

FTGL-06
FTGL-06 is located on the former National Park Seminary property and is comprised of three study areas—Stream A and Former Building 138 (the Stream A Investigation Area), Salt Dome Storage Area, and Building 178 Former Transformer Platform. The Army investigated the soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater, as applicable, to determine if elevated levels of PCBs were present as a result of historical site operations in the three study areas. Removal actions were conducted to remove approximately 8,000 tons of PCB-impacted soil, as well as staged transformers, to eliminate the sources of contamination. The comprehensive environmental investigations and human health and ecological assessments concluded that current or potential future site conditions at all three areas pose no unacceptable risks to human health or ecological receptors, and no further action is needed. Site FTGL-06 is available for unrestricted future use with no needed controls, restrictions, or future environmental reviews.
