BASE REALIGNMENT AND CLOSURE

NOTIFICATION OF 2nd FIVE-YEAR REVIEW

This public notice is to inform the community that the Army’s 2nd Five-Year Review report of the remedy selected for the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure property at Camp Kilmer in Edison, New Jersey (site) is now available for review.  The purpose of the 2nd Five-Year Review is to determine whether the selected remedy implemented for the site continues to be protective of human health and the environment.  Consolidation of contaminated soil, constructing a cap over the soil, and land-use controls was the selected remedy for soil affected by certain metals and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. Hydrogen releasing compound injection, monitored natural attenuation, and a classification exception area was employed to address groundwater affected by chlorinated hydrocarbons.

The public is invited to examine the 2nd Five-Year Review report for a 30-day comment period commencing August 26, 2013.  A copy of the 2nd Five-Year review report is available at the Camp Kilmer Information Repository, which is located at the following addresses:
