TIOGA, PA. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tioga-Hammond and Cowanesque Lakes invites the public to attend a water rescue demonstration on the Hammond Lake near the swimming area at Ives Run Recreation Area on Saturday, August 31 at 11 a.m.

“This demonstration offers families and great opportunity to get to know their local first responders, and to help children understand the importance of being safe around water," Mark Simonis, Operations Manager said.

As part of the water safety awareness campaign, USACE and local partners Guthrie Air, Middlebury Fire Department and Wellsboro Dive Team will show how they would respond to a water related emergency rescue.   A dummy will be used as the victim for part of the demonstration and a brief narrative will be provided during and after the demonstration.

Following the event, various fire departments and emergency response teams will have their equipment on display to answer questions.  Games and prizes will also be available for the kids.

For further information on the event, please contact USACE at 570-835-5281, or stop by our visitor information center in the Ives Run Recreation Area.  Also, visit us at http://www.nab.usace.army.mil/Missions/DamsRecreation/CowanesqueLake.aspx.
