Overview

East Sidney Lake is formed by a dam consisting of earthfill embankment and a concrete gravity-type structure.  The dam is 2010 feet long and rises 130 feet above the streambed.  The spillway and five gated outlets are located in the concrete dam section.  The lake area is 1100 acres at top of spillway elevation, while the recreation lake totals 210 acres.  The project was operationally complete in April 1950.  Recreational facilities were available starting in May 1965.

East Sidney Dam is located on Ouleout Creek in Delaware County, N.Y. The dam is approximately four highway miles downstream from the village of Franklin and six miles upstream from Unadilla.

The project is a unit of the comprehensive flood control plan for the protection of communities in southern New York and eastern Pennsylvania authorized by the Flood Control Act of June 22, 1936, as amended by the Flood Control Act of June 28, 1938, and is described in House Document No. 702, 77th Congress, second session.

The town of Sidney operates and maintains the East Sidney Recreation Area. Recreational facilities include a beach, picnic area, playground, campground, and boat launch. Recreation is offered Memorial Day to Labor Day annually. For more information call: 607-829-6006
